Wale Okerayi, LMHC

Psychotherapist (Couples, Families, and Peers/Friendships)

About Me

Hi, I’m happy that you have made it here! My name is Wale Okerayi (she/her) and I am a Psychotherapist serving folks in New York & Texas. I grew up in Houston, Texas and then moved to New York City where I received a double masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College Columbia University.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I am a huge reader and creative. I read and prioritize books by BIPOC authors and share my reflections and reviews online. I also enjoy home decor, legos, writing fiction, and painting.

Specialties

Some of my specialities include working with folks who are navigating through identities, racial trauma, first generation issues, life transitions, self esteem, body image, attachment, family conflict, intergenerational trauma & grief. I also work with couples who are struggling with communication, trauma, infidelity, intimacy, boundaries, disconnection, life transitions, and cultural differences.

Therapeutic approaches

My work is rooted in the fact that therapy should not look the same for everybody. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, eclectic, holistic, relational, and trauma-informed. I like to structure our work around you, your needs, and identities. As your therapist, my goal in each session is to create a safe and judgment free zone so that you can feel free to show up as your authentic self to further your healing and growth. Below are treatment modalities and theories that I use in my therapeutic practice:

  • Psychodynamic

  • Attachment theory

  • Mindfulness

  • Relational therapy

  • Holistic therapy

  • Couples counseling

  • Premarital counseling

Rates

My rate is $225 for a 50 minute individual session and $275 for a 60 minute couple session. I also provide family therapy and other relational support like friendship counseling. Sliding scale is available for those in financial need. Our services can also be submitted for reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits.
