About Me

Hello, welcome, and thank you for being here!

My name is Freedom (they/them). You’re welcome to call me Free or Freedom, I love them both. I’m a Psychotherapist, doula, mindfulness instructor, tati (which means aunt in Creole), and dog mom. I am also: a proud middle child of Haitian immigrants, queer, Black, spiritual, and neurodivergent (diagnosed with ADHD at 32). I am a big nerd who loves studying a wide range of topics from Human Design and astrology to herbalism to Buddhist Psychology. In my day-to-day life, you might find me watching Star Trek virtually with my long-distance partner, learning French, knitting, walking barefoot, cooking, practicing yoga or qi gong, meditating, gardening, playing with my dog on the floor, or writing poetry and silly songs.

Specialties

I specialize in working with first-generation Americans and immigrants, queer folx, Black folx, and people who hold marginalized identities. I have experience and interest in working with young professionals navigating career issues, people questioning their identity, people struggling to build healthy, intimate relationships, people who regularly feel burnt out, and people who carry the weight of a loud inner critic. I am interested in working with couples who are navigating important shared-life transitions, including moving-in together, marriage, and parenthood. I welcome anyone navigating neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, grief, and existential dread. Whoever you are, come as you are. I’m here for you!

Therapeutic approaches

I have been described as warm, curious, engaging, open-minded, and encouraging. My therapeutic approach is mindful, trauma-informed, contextual, and full of deep care. A mindful approach, to me, looks like holding a body-based awareness of what is going on in the current moment and inviting my clients to do the same. When I say trauma-informed, I mean that my work is grounded in the understanding that trauma foundationally impacts the functioning of both our bodies and our brains. Through a contextual approach, I remember that our “problems” don’t exist in a vacuum and that we live in a country built on a legacy of White supremacy. A contextual approach often involves confronting the tendency to pathologize our “issues” and, instead, reframe them as behavioral /psychological patterns that help us survive and cope with oppression. My aim is to remind clients that even within a context of oppression, we can maintain autonomy, power, and control over the direction of our lives. I believe that awareness of our perception is key, as it impacts our experience. I like to help clients find truthful and loving perceptions on past and current experiences.

Here’s a broader list of the treatment modalities and theories that I tend to utilize in my therapeutic practice:

  • Client-centered/Humanistic

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Womanist

  • Somatic

  • Mindfulness

  • Buddhist Psychology

  • Liberation Psychology

  • Trauma-Informed

  • Harm Reduction
